Carano Gallery, Inaugural Exhibition

EAST FALLS - Sherman Mills, East Falls is pleased to announce the opening of a cooperative gallery named in honor of Frank Canaro, philanthropist and mentor to developer Mark Sherman. An inaugural exhibition that showcases the works of twenty-nine resident visual artists will run through August 18th., with a public reception to meet the artists on Friday, June 13th from 5 to 7 pm.

The gallery walls are hung salon style with 75 abstract and realistic paintings, drawings, photographs and textiles. Also included are sculptures, glass works, pottery and jewelry. All works are for sale directly from the artists.

The gallery is open weekends through the run of the show from 11 am to 5 pm.

Frank Carano 1909 - 2002
Frank Canaro, lawyer and philanthropist, was regarded as one of the deans of the Philadelphia Bar and endowed a chaired professorship at his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania Law School. One of the organizers of the America Italy Society of Philadelphia, he worked to improve the lives and opportunities for countless immigrants since the Great Depression. For his work in the reconstruction of Italy after the Second World War, he was honored with the title of Grande Ufficiale.

East Falls : On the banks of the Schuylkill, East Falls has a rich history as the city’s only original waterfront neighborhood. Marked by the historic green metal Falls Bridge, the neighborhood sits at the end of the popular Schuykill recreational loop, and extends up the steep, tree-lined hill toward Philadelphia University.
